My Substance Use

Being born in Hong Kong to a family with traditional values and having had the idea that drugs were only for “bad” people, I never really imagined I would become an addict. But it happened, and I got hit hard. Becoming addicted to a substance was definitely not something I had planned or aspired to, yet I feel within the Asian community there are often not many opportunities to openly talk about drug use, let alone addictions or the mental health issues that often go hand-in-hand with substance use......

Love Bugs: Love as a risk factor for HIV?

As a 35 year old gay, Asian HIV+ man, I have only had two serious relationships: one that started more than 10 years ago and lasted only 3 months, and one which I am currently in.  For many years, I believed love was out of my reach. At one point, I thought the path of monkhood was in store for me as the elusive love I was so desperately looking for never came or lasted. Now that I am in a stable and loving relationship with a 2-Spirited man, I can only say I am grateful for all the tough lessons “love” has taught me through the years so I can now sustain a healthy and satisfying relationship......
